THE Nadi Town Council expects its town to be cleanest in Fiji.
Special administrator Aisea Tuidraki said this would only be possible if it maximised the 3Rs projects -- reduce, reuse and recycle to promote waste minimisation in Nadi.
Addressing the participants of the Waste Minimisation Project in Nadi yesterday, Mr Tuidraki said that waste minimisation and recycling promotions was now part of their program for the next three years.
He told participants that they should "take pride and ownership of that project to promote waste minimisation in Nadi and in the future to project Nadi as the cleanest town in Fiji". Mr Tuidraki said that Fiji requested technical co-operation from Japan for a project on waste minimisation and recycling promotions.
"Therefore based on this request, the Waste Minimisation and Recycling Promotion Project in the Republic of the Fiji Islands targeting Lautoka City and Nadi Town was started with the support of JICA from October last year."
Mr Tuidraki said that Matavolivoli, with 143 households and a population of 572, was selected for the pilot project.
