“MY record speaks for itself.”

These were the words of Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem in response to six opposition parties who claimed he did not meet the requirements to become the Elections Supervisor.

During a joint forum last week by the Social Democratic Liberal Party, National Federation Party, Fiji Labour Party, Freedom Alliance Party, Unity Fiji Party and the People’s Democratic Party, the six parties said they remained concerned that Mr Saneem still did not meet the minimum qualification requirements for his current position as SOE.

The parties claimed Mr Saneem was appointed despite not meeting the minimum qualification requirements.

In his response, Mr Saneem said as the SOE, the Fijian Elections Office has achieved significant milestones in taking Fiji’s elections from where it was in 2006, 2013, and 2014 to where it was today.

“One only has to on their smartphone and download our app to see the advancement the office has made,” Mr Saneem said.

“That speaks for itself. I don’t know what further MQR you need.”

He said if there were competitions regarding his position; people should then submit their applications when the position was advertised.

“For anyone who is still stuck at that position, I think they need to open their eyes to see if there is any other person in this country who has as much experience of running an election as I do.

“This is why I don’t like to say these things because it makes me sound like I’m blowing my own trumpet, but my record speaks for itself. “If there is any competition in that regard, someone who can do better; they can always apply if and when the position is advertised,” he added.
