Elderly man jailed to 10 years for rape

Update: 8:17PM AN 82-year-old man convicted of raping two girls – one aged eight years and the second 11 – between 2016 and 2017 was today sentenced to 10 years and 10 months imprisonment.

Solomone Dawakamakoma appeared before High Court judge Justice Thusara Rajasinghe in the High Court in Suva.

He was charged with four counts of rape, which he committed between December 3, 2016, and March 26 last year.

Justice Rajasinghe said such acts were unacceptable.

The man will be eligible for parole after serving five years and 10 months behind bars.
