Coca Cola Games: Favourites lead in girls blue ribbon prelims

THIRTEEN gold medals are up for grabs as Day One of the Coca Cola Fiji Secondary Schools athletics finals begin at the ANZ Stadium this past hour. As the 100m preliminaries begin, sprinters from champion schools have made their mark ahead of tomorrow’s finals.

In the girls heats, the four leading competitors are Unaisi Tagabale of Jasper Williams High School (Jasper) has qualified while newcomer Naomi Navuga has also secured her spot.

St. Joseph’s Secondary School’s Christiana Matavola (SJSS) lead heat three while last years sub junior winner in this event last year Livia Nabulo led the pack in heat four.

The other stand outs from the four heats are Adi Cakobau School’s Amele Navabale and Marica Korovulavula (ACS), Litia Daveta of Natabua High School (NAT) and Louisa Tubailagi of SJSS.

Most of today’s gold medals come from the field events but the closing event today is the 1500m.
