INTERESTS for overseas contracts has poured into the Fiji Airways national 7s team after the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco, USA in July.

After finishing second in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and the Rugby World Cup 7s, some players in the Fiji 7s team have caught the attention of overseas clubs wanting to contract the national reps.

Coach Gareth Baber said after a hard fought battle in the 7s arena some of the players had been offered contracts by overseas clubs.

“I’m aware of some of the interests to several players and it comes with the territory after the world 7s series and the World Cup 7s, contracts has come in and there are four to five players who have had interests,” Baber said.

Apart from the ‘Sledgehammer’ Eroni Sau who has earned a spot in the France Top 14 club Perpignan, Baber says he has monitored the offers given and made sure his players are well contracted.

“We have a good culture in terms of the group and they make me aware of these and it’s not hidden from me, so I’m aware of what’s happening,” Baber said.

“Eroni Sau has been given a contract with Perpignan and I’m well aware of that and I have a good understanding of his contract and so if any other player gets a contract, I would try to see if they have a good contract.”

Meanwhile, the national 7s team will resume training at the end of the month as they prepare for the upcoming 7s tournaments in November.

Baber will also include some new names into his squad after travelling around the country searching for players who have the calibre to be part of the national 7s training squad before his final selection.
